In November of 2002, DoPasO
celebrated their 50th year anniversary.
An afternoon/evening dinner dance was
held, hosting over 400 people. National
callers Tom Miller and Tim Marriner,
along with Bill Gordon, Linda Prosser,
and JoAnn Strawser provided the calling
and cueing. The event was also
attended by several of the club’s past
callers.

In The Beginning…1952
In the fall of 1952, parents and friends of Wickersham
Elementary School wanted to participate in the P.T.A.
association, but
di
d
no
t
want to play
cards.
Square
dancing
was introduced and it was a big success. Those who
were
there for the first dance wanted to dance and learn
more.
They decided to get together and form a club. Herb Quigley,
now deceased, was the first caller, both at the school
and
for
the new
club.
The group got together at the home of Bea and Chuck
Gilbo to make arrangements to become a club. Dick and
Dottie
Mower
y
named the club
"DO-PAS-O".
This was a term
foreign to many at that time. It was the first square dance term
to become the name of
a
square
dance club in this
area.
Harold and Alverta Budding were the first
presidents.
The first dances were covered dish socials mixed with
dancing. The socials were held at Wohr's Play Barn on
North Plum Street

Lancaster.
The callers who helped
the club in those
formative
years were - Herb Quigley,
Bert Wittenberg, Bob Haines, Glenn Shanafelt, Emory
Charles, Tom Hoffman, John Fisher, Paul Andrews

some national callers
